Walking The Same Land

Walking The Same Land

2000, 43 minutes, Color

The intrusion and imposition of European culture and values upon the North American indigenous way of life has left many Native communities broken and scattered.

Walking the Same Land is the story of members of an Aboriginal community from Australia meeting and sharing their common experiences with a Mohawk community in upstate New York in May 1997. The video explores how young Aboriginal men recognized their need to return to their traditions and culture. Indigenous music and dance from both continents communicate the strength of culture in healing and recovery.

“The voices of the young men offer vision and hope to others using a more holistic approach in substance abuse treatment.” Carmen R. Jones (Ojibway)
